In January 2026, AIMI member Moritz Schillinger and his collaborators from the University Hospital Erlangen attended SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco. As a leading international forum for biomedical optics and biophotonics, the conference provided a platform for our team to present recent advancements in photoacoustic imaging, ranging from computational correction methods to clinical perfusion studies:
- Personalized fluence correction for photoacoustic imaging using ultrasound-based tissue segmentation
- Overcoming validation barriers in optical imaging: a physiologically realistic blood flow simulation model
- Analysis of musculoskeletal perfusion during threshold exercise testing using multispectral optoacoustic tomography in healthy subjects and patients with peripheral arterial disease
Beyond the technical sessions, the conference provided valuable exchange with international experts in photoacoustics and further strengthened the research ties between our lab and the clinical specialists at the University Hospital Erlangen.
