Two Dissertation Awards for (Prof.) Dr. Katharina Breininger
At this year’s “Tag der Technischen Fakultät”, Prof. Dr. Katharina Breininger was awarded with two dissertation awards – the “Karl-Gierl-Preis 2021” by the Erika-Gierl-Stiftung presented by Prof. Dr. Andreas Fröba and the Dissertation Award for the best female young scientist by the Women’s Representative of the technical faculty, Prof. Dr. Barbara Kappes. For the latter, Katharina’s engagement in supporting and educating female high school students e.g. in the context of the “Forscherinnencamp” was emphasized in addition to her scientific achievements during her PhD on the topic “Machine Learning and Deformation Modeling for Workflow Compliant Image Fusion during Endovascular Aortic Repair”. The “Tag der TF” continued with a Science Slam where awardees and FAU researchers aimed to present their research topics in just 3 minutes – a task almost as hard as finishing the PhD.
Katharina continues her career at FAU leading the junior professorship Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging at the Department AIBE.
